Family and Friends Beach Get Together - 11:00 AM
All are welcome!
Come eat, swim, meet new family, lay out in the sun (Hilo weather permitting), and maybe see some sea turtles at Carlsmith Beach Park (1815 Kalanianaole Street)!
We plan to arrive around 11:00, but we have rented the pavilion for the full day, and you're welcome to come and go as you please
We will be grilling up hot dogs, burgers, and Beyond sausages, please BYOB and something to share
In addition to the limited parking right at Carlsmith, there is a parking lot just before the beach park (Keaukaha Road)
This beach is grassy, not sandy, but there is sand under the water and rock structures block the waves and provide calm waters to swim in! There are steps to get into the water.
Please only use reef-safe sunscreen!! Chemicals with 'zone' in the name destroy our native marine ecosystem!
Public restrooms are available on site
Trip to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park - leaving Hilo around 3:30 PM
Take a drive up to the worlds most active volcano!
Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, believed to reside in the Halemaʻumaʻu crater at the summit of Kīlauea, which has been periodically erupting since December 2024. Pele willing, Kīlauea may fountain the week of the wedding, but if not, the glow of the lava lake at night is still a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many!
The main entrance is at 1 Crator Rim Drive, Volcano, ~50 min from Hilo. We will be leaving Carlsmith around 3:30 PM. We will have space in our car for a few, but if you have your own transportation plan on using that.
We will meet at the visitor's center to regroup, then do a short, easy hike around the crater while we still have light, and once it gets dark we will guide everyone to the best lava viewing site.
Please bring layers, it gets cold and windy in the park at night, as well as a flashlight or headlamp, there are no lights in the park. Good walking shoes are recommended, but hiking boots will not be essential for the easy trail we have planned. If you want a more adventurous hike, the park has many to offer, feel free to go up earlier and spend the day. Click here for the park website!
